The flora motif repeated in this design is an homage to the balance of nature and the symbolism of fours. The Anishinaabe sacred medicines, sage, cedar, sweetgrass and tobacco. The elements, earth, water, air and fire. The Seasons, spring, summer, fall and winter. Life cycles, birth, youth, elder and death. Human needs, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Last but not least, the directions, north, south, east and west. There is so much pattern and repetition in nature- all things living in perfect symmetry. Aki (the land) is so generous, providing us with all we need.
